You’ve probably heard the word, marcaje, a lot in your flamenco dance classes.
But what does it mean?
A marcaje is a step that marks the rhythm of the music.
A variety of different marcajes are found in every flamenco dance.
Marcajes can be used to travel across the floor, or they can be done in place.
They can be done facing one direction or changing directions.
They can include turns.
They can be dynamic or more modest.
The marcaje below includes some direction changes and some minimal traveling.
You could dance this marcaje with cante or with guitarra or compás alone.
