Use the video tutorial below to learn a simple tangos marcaje.

Add it to your collection of marking steps to dance por tangos,

or use it as an exercise to improve your form and fluidity.

It is a basic marking step that we use a lot in flamenco across different rhythms.

Here we dance it with an 8-count compás.

You may pair a variety of different arm movements with it.

In this version we keep it simple by raising the arms above the head and roating the hands.

Take a peek at the video then check out the notes to follow for key details:

Be sure to hold the elbows strong and facing to the sides.

(Don’t let them bend forward.)

Swing your hips side to side as you move the feet forward and back.

In the video I start with the right foot, but you may begin with either the right or the left.

The counts are:

1 step forward

2 pause

3 step back

4 pause

5 step forward with the opposite foot

6 pause

7 step back

8 pause

Repeat

Do this marking step as many times as you’d like.

Check out this flamenco manos video tutorial for detailed instructions on how to rotate the hands.

P.S. As you know, Frances the Kitty Cat loves to be involved in just about everything related to anything. ⁣😹Here she’s responsible for the snorty sound effects during the footwork closeup.
