How are your pitos, finger snaps?
(My left ones could use some help. Can you tell when you watch the video below?)
Here’s a simple tangos marcaje combination you can use to work on details like that as well as:
Arm movements,
Coordination,
Head placement, and
Hip movements.
Watch the video tutorial below to learn these two simple marking steps:
You may start on either the right or left side.
You could put these steps into a dance together as you see here or use them separately.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the two different marcajes.
Marcaje One:
Alternate stepping right and left while you raise the arms.
Be sure to lead with the elbows!
When you bring the arms down drop the elbows but leave some space between your upper arms and the sides of your body.
(“Air out your armpits,” is what I like to say.)
For extra fun, add pitos.
If your snaps don’t make a lot of noise, or any, that’s okay.
It’s commmon for your dominant hand to be louder than your non-dominant hand. The more you practice doing it the better the sound will be.
As you alternate feet, gently swing your hips side to side keeping your energy down in the lower half of the body.
Marcaje Two:
I’m doing a full foot marcaje at half speed.
Accent the hands each time you place the foot down.
Keep the elbows prominent.
Look toward the side you’re marking with, and look forward in between.
And most importantly, enjoy!
