Flamenco lovers from throughout the US and Canada gathered in July for what was an incredible flamenco weekend with Mercedes Ruiz and Santiago Lara.

Here’s a summary of our workshops with these two incredible flamenco artists in images:

(Stay tuned for pictures from their show…)

The generosity that Mercedes and Santi show in sharing the richness of their culture, and not holding anything back, touched all of us. Mercedes really sees all the students. I was happily surprised to receive so much personal attention during class. I felt like she was really invested in us doing well and bringing out our own personal expression. We all felt the energy and the joy. It’s a whole different level of connecting with the art.

I loved loved loved every workshop class, and the performance was amazing! Mercedes was definitely one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. She did such a wonderful job of setting the right pace for each level, paying attention to each student, giving a perfect mix of critical feedback and affirming winks and smiles. What a treat to study with her!

This weekend filled me with so much joy and I felt like I was in heaven!! Mercedes is not just a talented artist and instructor but also easy going and kind, making me feel relaxed and supported. Having live guitar accompaniment and a compás class from Santiago was also very special. I received so much kindness and assistance with rides and all of the girls were warm and friendly. I have made new friends and have already gotten some texts and emails from fellow dancers wanting to stay in contact....You, Laura are sharing the gift of Flamenco and bringing people together which is a special thing.
