Below watch a video of David Lagos on fire por alegrías.
You’ll also find the words to one of the letras he sings, which he also wrote.
I was unable to decipher most of the words the first time I heard it. Thankfully I asked David about it, and he filled in the gaps for me.
Because not only is David incredibly talented, but he is also incredibly kind!
Watch and listen to him sing this letra, and many others he wrote, in the video below.
Alegrías
David Lagos
Que ya sale mi barco
de la bahía
las olitas lo mecen por alegrías
hasta llegar a puerto
viene bailando
los marineros al verlo
le están cantando tirittran gran trero
con que soniquete que le están cantando
con que soniquete baila mi barco.
Now my boat is leaving
from the bay
the waves swing to rhythm of alegrias
all the way to the port
it comes in dancing
The sailors upon seeing it
sing tirittran and a big trero
what great rhythm they sing with
what great rhythm my boat dances with.
This is one of those letras that sounds way better in Spanish than in English. If you believe there’s a better way to translate any of the lines, please let me know.
This is the final letra David sings in the video. Can you pick out all of the words?
Would you love to study with David?
You’re in luck!
March 13 & 20 he’ll be teaching an online workshop, Flamenco: Its Sound, Its Origin, Its Knowledge. This flamenco theory workshop is open to all. Find out all you need to know here.
Here are some of the other letras you hear in the video:
You may be wondering why this is titled “Part 5” and where are the other parts? They can be found below. I posted the other parts years ago!
