Clásica Tradición

Emilio Ochando is very excited to present to Portland audiences the polished version of Clásica Tradición this May.

In 2018 and 2019 Emilio gave local audiences a peek of his then work-in-progress, Clásica Tradición. Now we have the opportunity to see what this show has evolved into!

Following the performance we invite you to stick around for a Q & A session where Emilio will answer questions from members of the audience, and talk about his creative process.

The show, Clásica Tradición, displays a vision of dance as it is today, renewed while still honoring tradition.

Set to emblematic Spanish musical pieces such as el Vito, Fandango de Doña Francisquita, Maria de la O, Seguirilla, Verdiales, Alegrías, a renewed sound is created using Spanish guitar, chello, piano, and the female voice.

Emilio uses the manton (big shawl) along with bells, spoons, and castanets to provide character to each musical piece.

(Get ready to see spoons used like you’ve never seen before).

Lighting threads each element together.

This show takes audiences on a tour of the personal and professional trajectory of Emilio’s journey, each stage marked by dance and music.

Join us May 15th in Portland for Clásica Tradición where past experiences look to the present.

Here is a peek at the debut of this show at the Paco Rabal Theater in Madrid. Live musicians will not be present at the Portland performances, and Emilio will perform to recorded music from the show.
