Tangos Llamada [Flamenco Dance Steps]
Here’s a fun llamada por tangos with lots of contratiempo and a redoble.
Watch the video below to learn it step by step.
We’ll start with the feet.
Then learn the arms.
Next we’ll put them together.
Some Body Notes:
In the section where I show just arms there should be 3 palmas, all contratiempo. When I say “clap” that is actually a planta.🙈
The three contratiempo palmas are on the beats before 8, 1, and 2.
At the end of the llamada you can leave your head facing forward or turn it slightly to the right as you accent your hands.
Steps & Counts:
𝟭 right golpe (stomp)
𝟮 hold
𝟯 left planta (ball of the foot)
𝟰 right planta
𝟱 left planta
𝟲 left tacón (heel)
& right golpe
𝗮 right golpe
𝟳 left golpe
& palma (clap)
𝟴 right planta

𝟮 left planta

𝟳 right golpe
Redoble:
The double golpe between beats 6-7 in the first compas is a redoble (roll), very commonly seen in tangos llamadas. I would call that whole part from 6-7 the full redoble step opening with the tacón on 6 and closing with the golpe on 7.
Wondering what to do next?
I created this llamada as a lead in to a contratiempo footwork pattern.
Let me know below if you’d like me to make a tutorial of that pattern!
You can also combine this with any of these tangos steps.
