An Interview with Flamenco Dancer Marco Flores (Video)
A couple of years ago on a rainy June day in Madrid, Marco Flores and I sat down at a café in his neighborhood of Lavapiés in Madrid for an interview.
You won’t find the usual information about how he got started in flamenco, etc. in the video below. You can find that out here in the first interview we did in 2011.
You will learn where he finds inspiration, why he thinks you need to follow your own path and listen to your intuition, if he enjoys teaching, and the palo he most enjoys dancing, -Can you guess what it is? I’m pretty sure you can- and more.
You will also get to see his winning smile and feel his kindness coming across the screen.
Topic Breakdown:
0:05 Following your path*
1:10 Dancing his own pieces
3:15 Favorite palo
3:45 Inspiration
4:35 Working with a team
5:00 Teaching
6:20 Longest amount of time without dancing
By the way, the dog you see was a random dog visiting from another table. Marco has a cat, Pelu. She’s a total princess, and you can follow him on Instagram to see her.
Marco is head to toe dancer, head to toe artist, and head to toe kindness.
Should you ever have the chance to see him perform live or better yet, study with him, definitely DO IT!
Be True To Yourself
*The part about staying true to yourself actually was at the end of the interview, but I found it to be so important that I put it in the beginning so it wouldn’t be missed. What do you think? How do you stay your path in flamenco and in life? Do you? Let me know in the comments below.
